Thanks for writing this, Celeste. Aime Wichtendahl's speech was pitch perfect and heroic. She is an Iowan through and through. Loves her family, loves her community, loves her state. She's an admirable public servant. She told her story of pain and vulnerability. It wasn't enough. It will never be enough. Republicans are locked into their hate agenda.
I totally agree. I'm still taken aback by the cruelty it takes to sit there and listen to her and then be like... "Whatevs. I'm voting for this bill anyways." They don't see her (or trans people generally) as human.
